About the role
Wellstar Spalding is seeking a Full-Time MLT to join their Night Shift team.
Job summary
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Manager or Laboratory Director, the Medical Laboratory Technician performs tests requiring limited skill and responsibility and exercises independent judgment minimally, as competency is demonstrated.
Core responsibilities and essential functions
- Maintain acceptable accuracy in patient, quality assurance, proficiency and competency testing.
- Meet department standard for correct patient or specimen identification.
- Meet department standard for error rate in testing or reporting patient or QC results.
- Consistently document investigation and correct interpretation of QA failures or trends.
- Earn acceptable scores in proficiency testing and personnel competency testing.
- Maintain instrumentation for testing.
- Use clinical/theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret and report lab data.
- Report lab data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Recognize the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectation.
- Initiate investigation of problems and work to resolution.
- Interpret information from multiple sources.
- Practice information monitoring, investigation, resolution and hand-off to team members.
- Comply with Pending Log procedure for tracking laboratory test status.
- Document in the LIS all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure.
- Hand-off information to others according to the department procedure and chain of command.
- Adhere to WellStar's Standards of Behavior in a consistent fashion.
- Take personal responsibility for correction action on constructive criticism.
- Practice organizational skills for efficiency of time, materials, cost and completing testing.
- Meet deadlines for turn-around times required by the department.
- Meet department-defined standards for organizational skills.
- Meet department productivity standards.
- Practice cost-efficient work processes that maintain high quality laboratory data.
- Maintain current knowledge and practice of WellStar Policies and procedures, including LIS.
- Demonstrate adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
- Practice all WellStar and Laboratory Safety Standards.
- Participate in meetings, committees, task forces and project teams.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Medical Technology (required).
- Certification: Med Lab Technician (AAB) or Med Lab Technician (AMT) or Med Lab Technician (ASCP) – all required upon hire unless otherwise stated. For persons who possess the technician qualifications and have recently moved into the state or completed the academic and/or training requirements, they may be temporarily classified once as technicians.
Preferred experience
- Minimum 1 year Laboratory experience preferred.
