MUSC Health Florence Medical Center is a leading regional acute care facility comprised of 396 patient beds and more than 1,500 employees and nearly 300 physicians representing all major specialties. Responsibilities

  • Perform Moderate and High Complexity Testing on blood and all types of body fluid specimens.
  • Work in various areas of the Laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.).
  • Ensure accurate and reliable test results by adhering to instrument maintenance, calibration and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with phlebotomy and other hospital staff to ensure proper collection of patient samples.
  • Troubleshoot problems with laboratory equipment, test methods, and sample collection.
  • Train new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies.
  • Communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff.
  • Work under pressure of emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Education: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university. Degree must be in Medical Laboratory Science or one of the biological or chemical sciences. Laboratory training through an accredited laboratory program preferred.
  • Experience: One to two years experience working in an accredited laboratory preferred, although will consider new grads as well.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Certification as a laboratory professional by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or HEW needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work in various areas of the Laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure of emergency situations.

Skills
