Medical Director Surgeon - Outpatient Surgery

Job Summary

The Medical Director of Outpatient Surgery is a practicing, board-certified surgeon who provides both clinical care and executive leadership within the ambulatory surgery center. This role combines active surgical practice with strategic oversight of clinical quality, physician governance, operational performance, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of medical staff policies to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

• Ensure physicians and providers adhere to surgery center guidelines, accreditation standards, and applicable laws.

• Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance and quality improvement programs in collaboration with leadership and committees.

• Participate in strategic planning to maximize productivity, operational efficiency, and service growth.

• Maintain cost-effective practice standards while achieving the highest quality of care.

• Update organizational design to support evolving patient and market needs.

• Maintain close collaboration with administrative leadership and meet regularly with the Director of Outpatient Surgery.

• Serve as medical advisor to executive leadership as needed.

Qualifications

• Education & Licensure: MD or DO from an accredited institution; Board Certification in a surgical specialty; Active, unrestricted state medical license.

• Experience: 5–7+ years of clinical surgical practice required; Leadership experience in ambulatory surgery center or hospital setting preferred.

• Knowledge & Skills: Strong understanding of outpatient surgical operations; Knowledge of accreditation standards with CMS; Data-driven performance management; Effective communicator and collaborative leader; Skilled in conflict resolution and change management.
