Medical Director of Psychiatry – Correctional Facility – Pittsburgh, PA
About the role
The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Institute seeks a full-time, board-certified adult psychiatrist to oversee behavioral health services in the Allegheny County Jail. The position requires balancing safety, legal precedents, and quality care within budget constraints.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with healthcare and correctional administration to improve behavioral health practices
- Revise behavioral health policies and procedures as a community partner and advocate for a high-risk population
- Train and supervise psychiatry residents on elective rotations
- Supervise psychiatric physicians and advanced practice providers at the Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections
- Conduct case and critical incident reviews, and coordinate process improvements with clinical teams and corrections administration
- Lead interdisciplinary behavioral health clinical teams incorporating a holistic care model
Qualifications
- At least three (3) years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting and one (1) year in supervisory/administrative roles
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute
- Must be a Certified Correctional Health Professional by the National Commission of Correctional Medicine and/or member of the American College of Correctional Physicians or American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law at time of hire
- Completed ACGME-approved Psychiatry residency
- Board eligible/certified in Psychiatry
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
- Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania prior to employment
