About the role

This leadership role offers the opportunity to help shape psychiatric care delivery across both our OMH-licensed mental health clinics and OASAS-certified substance use treatment programs within a respected nonprofit organization that has served the community for over 70 years. This is an ideal opportunity for a psychiatrist seeking a flexible, primarily remote leadership role that combines clinical oversight, mentorship, collaboration, and strategic input - without the demands of a large hospital system or high-volume inpatient setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall clinical leadership and psychiatric oversight across outpatient mental health and substance use programs
  • Maintain a small outpatient psychiatric caseload as clinically appropriate
  • Serve as collaborating physician and clinical supervisor for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners
  • Serve as a resource for complex psychiatric presentations, medication management, and treatment planning
  • Review and approve treatment plans, particularly for medication-management-only clients
  • Participate in Incident Review Committee meetings, medical staff meetings, interdisciplinary discussions, and quality initiatives
  • Support utilization review, peer review, risk management, and clinical quality assurance processes
  • Affirm psychiatric policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
  • Promote evidence-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered psychiatric care organization-wide
  • Ensure documentation, prescribing practices, and clinical workflows meet regulatory and ethical standards

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Active and unrestricted New York State medical license
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry required
  • DEA registration and NY controlled substance certification required
  • Strong knowledge of OMH, OASAS, and behavioral health regulatory requirements
  • Comfortable working independently within a hybrid/remote leadership structure
  • Experience with EHR systems and psychiatric documentation review

Qualifications

  • Experience with supervision and collaboration with Nurse Practitioners under NYS requirements
  • Experience supervising Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners
  • Familiarity with utilization review, incident review, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience in community mental health, outpatient psychiatry, or substance use treatment
