Medical Coder

About the role

This is a contract Medical Coder role in a hybrid work arrangement based in West Carrollton City, OH, with some work-from-home flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation from behavioral health services and assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.
• Validate the completeness and accuracy of patient records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Support timely billing and reimbursement processes.
• Collaborate with clinicians and administrative staff to clarify documentation, reduce coding-related denials, and maintain consistent coding practices.
• Use electronic health record and billing systems to enter and update codes, track coding metrics, and support quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Possess strong Medical Coding and Coding Experience relevant to behavioral health or similar clinical settings.
• Possess knowledge of Medical Terminology and Health Information Management principles to interpret clinical documentation and maintain accurate records.
• Possess credentials such as RHIT or equivalent coding or health information certifications, or be actively working toward such credentials.
• Possess proficiency with electronic health record systems, billing software, and basic office productivity tools.
• Possess attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to interpret and apply coding and payer guidelines consistently.
• Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid on-site/remote environment.
• Previous experience in behavioral health, mental health, or outpatient healthcare settings is beneficial.
