Position Summary

A Medical Assistant performs duties and responsibilities related to patient care in a clinic setting. They display responsible behaviors, communicate effectively, and function as part of the healthcare team. Reporting to the nurse manager, they perform clinical tasks under the supervision of a nurse or provider.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by American Heart Association

Essential Job Functions

  • Collects patient information
  • Maintains patient status and reports abnormalities
  • Confirms and clarifies written orders before implementation
  • Performs delegated procedures under clinical supervision
  • Assists practitioners in patient procedures, treatments, and examinations
  • Obtains and manages specimens
  • Provides patient instruction and directs patient flow
  • Orders, stocks, and maintains exam rooms and clinic areas
  • Performs related tasks such as requesting prescription refills, taking and relaying messages, and directing patient flow

  • Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintains confidentiality
  • Performs essential job functions successfully in a busy and stressful environment

  • Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes work while meeting multiple deadlines

Schedule Requirements

  • Regular and sustained attendance required
  • May work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts
  • On-call work may be required
