Shift: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM, 10-hour shifts (10/40 schedule). No weekends or on-call required.

Pay

The stated pay scale reflects the range Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position: $25.30 – $34.00 per hour. Actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients, staff, and physicians to maintain efficient operations and high-quality customer service.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill within scope of practice, including:
    • Performing and assisting with tests and procedures in assigned department.
    • Administering medications safely and accurately per guidelines and written orders, including two-patient identifier verification and documentation.
    • Preparing patients for examinations or procedures and obtaining complete, accurate consent.
    • Preparing and labeling biopsies thoroughly and accurately.
    • Accurately documenting patient care per protocol.
    • Partnering with physicians to expand clinical knowledge and listening to patients to collect pertinent information.
    • Returning phone calls according to physician instruction and scheduling patient appointments.
    • Reviewing pre-printed teaching materials or written instructions with patients in partnership with physicians.
    • Using universal precautions and demonstrating knowledge of infection control policies.
  • Support department efficiency and effectiveness:
    • Organize and complete daily requirements, including telephone message management and patient flow monitoring.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve problem calls, prioritize patient needs, and respond to urgent situations calmly.
    • Maintain readiness of reports and information to maximize patient visits and appropriate supply levels.
    • Enter authorizations and schedule surgeries/procedures accurately and timely.
    • Assist in other departments as needed and travel to other sites as business needs arise.
  • Complete Quality Assurance (QA) assignments and support quality initiatives (e.g., P4P, BMI, DataMart).
  • Demonstrate technical skills:
    • Knowledge of equipment and information systems applications, including emergency procedures (e.g., codes, fire).
    • Document patient care events thoroughly and accurately.
    • Manage and complete AEHR tasks per prescribed timelines.
    • Type a minimum of 30 words per minute with 0-2 errors and proof work accurately.
    • Operate and maintain department equipment.
  • Support front desk responsibilities, including knowledge of insurance, utilization review, and scheduling requirements.

Requirements

  • Certification of completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification (required).

Qualifications

  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a related clinical area (preferred).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (preferred).
  • Hospital Corpsman (HM) certification from the US Navy (preferred).

Skills

  • Proficiency in clinical skills and office procedures.
  • Medication administration proficiency.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to changing circumstances.

Clinical Competencies

  • Score 90% or greater in each section = Great.
  • Score 90% or greater in all but one section, passed on retesting = Good.
  • Unsuccessful in passing more than one section or failed to pass testing on second attempt = Needs Improvement.

Quality Assurance (QA) Performance

  • 96-100% = Great.
  • 90-95% = Good.
  • 90% and below = Needs Improvement.
