Hourly Pay Range: $25.30 – $34.00. The stated pay scale reflects the range Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on years of experience, unique skills, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.
Schedule
- Variable shift start and end times
- 8-hour shifts / 40-hour work week
- Sample schedule: Monday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Tuesday – Friday 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Weekend work as needed
- No on-call requirement
Responsibilities
- Assist patients, staff, and physicians to maintain efficient operations and high-quality customer service.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill within assigned scope of practice.
- Perform and assist with all tests and procedures in the assigned department.
- Administer medications safely and accurately per guidelines and written orders, including two-patient-identifier verification and documentation.
- Prepare patients for examinations or procedures and obtain complete, accurate consent.
- Prepare and label biopsies thoroughly and accurately.
- Accurately document patient care per protocol.
- Partner with physicians to expand clinical knowledge; listen to patients, collect pertinent information, and route urgent issues appropriately.
- Return phone calls according to physician instruction; may schedule patient appointments.
- Review pre-printed teaching materials or written instructions with patients in partnership with the physician.
- Use universal precautions and follow infection control policies and procedures.
- Assist Patient Service Representatives (PSRs) with front-desk responsibilities, including scheduling and telephone management.
- Organize and complete daily tasks to ensure efficient patient flow and physician schedule management.
- Manage telephone messages promptly and efficiently per established policy.
- Respond to urgent and emergent situations calmly and prioritize patient needs.
- Maintain readiness of reports and information to maximize patient visits.
- Keep appropriate supply levels and participate in site inspections and inventories.
- Enter authorizations and schedule surgeries and procedures accurately and timely.
- Assist in other departments as needed to meet staffing requirements and travel to other sites as business needs arise.
- Complete Quality Assurance (QA) assignments and ensure department compliance with requirements.
- Support and complete quality initiatives (e.g., P4P, BMI, DataMart).
- Demonstrate knowledge of equipment and information systems applications.
- Activate emergency procedures (e.g., code, fire) per protocol.
- Document patient care events thoroughly and accurately.
- Manage and complete AEHR tasks within prescribed timelines.
- Demonstrate typing proficiency: minimum 30 words per minute with 0–2 errors.
- Operate and maintain department equipment.
- Support front-desk responsibilities, including knowledge of insurance, utilization review, and scheduling requirements.
Requirements
- Certification of completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification (required).
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a related clinical area.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants.
- Hospital Corpsman (HM) – US Navy.
Clinical Competencies & Skills
- Successfully complete Clinical Competencies with a score of 90% or greater in each section (Great); or all but one section (Good on retesting). Unsuccessful in passing more than one section or failing retesting requires improvement.
- Demonstrate proficiency in medication administration, clinical skills, and office procedures.
