About the role
Under general supervision, and according to well-defined policies and procedures, the Medical Assistant/Medical Receptionist (MA/MR) assists in the delivery of primary health and patient care management. This position interviews patients and/or patients' representatives to obtain necessary personal, demographic, and financial information and identification. Performs routine clerical, secretarial, and administrative work including answering telephones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, data processing, computer data entry, and other record-keeping tasks related to patient registration. Assists with the flow of patients from the waiting area to exam rooms and performs preparatory work on patients to ensure efficient use of the physician's time. Experience with medical terminology and practice management systems is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare exam room for the physician, take and record vital signs and medical history, prepare patients for exam, perform EKG
- Answer and triage telephone calls
- Update medical record with lab and procedure results
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs
- Obtain medication preauthorization
- Triage telephone calls
- Call patients with lab results and physician instructions, and record in medical record
- Schedule appointments for patients
- Chart preparation prior to patient visit
- Perform event monitoring
- Explain treatments and physician instructions to patients
Requirements
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish
- High School Graduate or equivalent, or 5 years of Medical Assistant/PCT experience
- Completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistant/Patient Care Technician (PCT) preferred
- Current CPR Certification
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification
- Certification required for injection administration and medication documentation/handling
Pay
The rate of pay for this position starts at $17.00 per hour and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and skills. This minimum rate does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.
