Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist (Weekends)
About the role
The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist position at Shady Grove Fertility in Norfolk, Virginia is available immediately. The role is part-time, working every other Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM (or shift end), with compensation ranging from $19.00 to $23.75 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform high volume of phlebotomy
- Maintain supplies for the blood drawing stations
- Aid in the clinical care of fertility patients
- Ensure lab specimens are sent to proper labs
- Provide patient/couple counseling, procedure teaching, communicate physician orders and instructions
- Perform semen washes and set up for IUIs
- Take vital signs and provide general clinical assistance
- Utilize the computer in entering labs and printing labels
- Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients and patients' families
- Support and promote excellence in customer service
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong phlebotomy skills required
- High School diploma or completion of a formal MA program (preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail, demonstrated ability to follow-through, and high degree of comfort with computer applications, accuracy, and speed with data entry
- Minimum of one year of prior experience in healthcare and familiarity with medical terminology
