Medical Assistant or Clinical Team Assistant - Pediatrics Specialty Care

This is a 16-hour per week position, consisting of two 8-hour days.

About the Role

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for duties and responsibilities related to patient care and administrative support in a team-based environment, promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office. The MA functions under the license of the physician or advanced practice practitioner when performing clinical and other patient care responsibilities.

The Clinical Team Assistant (CTA) performs daily patient service functions to support the clinical team in the delivery of patient care. The CTA also functions under the license of a provider when performing clinical and other patient care responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care and administrative support tasks in a clinical setting.
  • Support the clinical team to ensure efficient patient flow and delivery of care.
  • Function under the license of a physician, advanced practice practitioner, or provider as required.

Requirements

Medical Assistant (MA)

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or
    • Completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or
    • 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
  • Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification required. (Prior to 5/01/25, MA IIs with 10 years of MA experience and employed by MaineHealth as a MA in the most recent 5 years are exempt from certification requirement).
  • Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
  • For positions located in New Hampshire: NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license required.
  • Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or one year as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant.

Clinical Team Assistant (CTA)

  • Student or graduate of an accredited vocational program, community college, or university in the field of health sciences that required clinical experience for advancement; or
  • Completion of an MA program that did not require a clinical externship; or
  • Completion of a healthcare vocational program with a patient-facing component; or
  • Equivalent relevant clinical patient-facing experience (evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
  • Current BLS certification within one month of hire required.
  • A minimum of three months of patient-facing clinical experience required.

Pay

The pay range for the Medical Assistant (MA) position is $21.09 to $27.12 per hour.

The pay range for the Clinical Team Assistant (CTA) position is $20.27 to $24.36 per hour.

Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
