Medical Assistant / Office Floater
About the role
The Orthopaedic Center is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant (MA) to assist various orthopedic physicians under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator. The position involves providing coverage for clinical teams as needed, performing general nursing duties, suturing/stapling removal, wound care, dressing changes, drawing up and calling in medications, applying sterile fields, removing casts and splints, locating necessary imaging/test results, scheduling and precertifying MRIs, lab work, procedures, and surgeries, preparing for clinics, escorting patients, and communicating with patients and staff.
Responsibilities
- Aid in covering clinical teams as needed
- Perform general nursing duties including suturing/stapling removal, wound care, dressing changes
- Draw up and call in medications
- Apply sterile fields and remove casts and splints
- Locate necessary imaging/test results and reports for upcoming appointments
- Schedule and precertify MRIs, lab work, procedures, and surgeries
- Prepare for clinics by printing patient information, restocking supplies, powering up computers, etc.
- Assist with verifying pre-op labs and scheduling surgery clearances as needed
- Fill out disability, return-to-work, and insurance forms
- Obtain physician signatures on miscellaneous forms
- Travel locally to satellite offices as needed
- Communicate with patients, TOC physicians, and staff via phone and email
- Answer and return patient phone calls, appointment/surgery reminder calls, respond to and chart patient messages, and communicate test results to patients with physician direction
- Provide patient education and handouts
- Escort patients to and from exam rooms
Requirements
Required Education: High School Diploma/GED. Required Certification: ROT or CCMA certification within the first 90 days of employment. Preferred Experience: One year full-time clinical experience in healthcare.
