About the role
The Orthopaedic Center is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA)/Floater to assist various orthopedic physicians and provide coverage for clinical teams.
Responsibilities
- Assist with general nursing duties, suture/staple removal, and wound care/dressing changes.
- Draw up and call in medications.
- Apply sterile fields and remove casts and splints.
- Locate necessary imaging, test results, or reports for upcoming appointments.
- Schedule and precertify MRI’s, lab work, procedures, and surgeries.
- Prepare for clinic by printing patient information, restocking supplies, powering up computers, etc.
- Assist with verifying pre-op labs and scheduling surgery clearances as needed.
- Fill out disability, return-to-work, and insurance forms.
- Obtain physician signatures on miscellaneous forms.
- Travel locally to satellite offices as schedule requires.
- Communicate effectively with patients, TOC physicians, and staff.
- Answer and return patient phone calls, appointment/surgery reminder calls, respond to and chart patient messages, and communicate test results to patients.
- Provide various forms of patient education and handouts.
- Escort patients to and from exam rooms.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification and/or Registration: ROT or CCMA certification required within the first 90 days of employment.
- Experience: Minimum one-year full-time clinical experience in healthcare preferred.
- Additional Skills/Abilities: Effective communication, ability to work under pressure, multitask, meet deadlines, strong organizational, verbal, and writing skills, independent, self-starting, highly motivated, patient care and interpersonal skills, and positive teamwork attitude.
