Support the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks that are vital to patient care. Location Details

Our internal medicine physicians at Aurora Internal Medicine in Milwaukee, WI, provide high-quality, personalized care. Internal medicine focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of complex medical conditions that affect young adults through seniors. The location is at 3003 W. Good Hope Rd., Milwaukee, WI. Our expert team of internal medicine physicians are committed to your health and wellness for the long term, with advanced training in multiple medical fields, including dermatology, endocrinology, neurology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases, and more.

Requirements

  • LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • MA: Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • GED or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  • LPN: Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and support their transition into care.
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed.
  • Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing.
  • Document care accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.

Skills

  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with the ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
  • Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
  • May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
  • Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
  • Additional department-specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Pay

Actual compensation offered in the Pay Range of $21.85 - $32.80 for a Medical Assistant or $24.10 - $36.15 for an LPN and will be based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training.
