Medical Assistant Lead - Family Practice
PeaceHealth is seeking a Medical Assistant Lead for a full-time, 1.00 FTE, day position.
About the Role
The salary range for this job opening is $26.89 – $36.31 per hour. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, and seniority. A hiring bonus may be available.
This role is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions for the assigned area, ensuring departmental goals are achieved, timelines are met, and service excellence is provided. As a subject matter expert, you will collaborate with the healthcare team to assist physicians/providers in delivering patient care within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.
Responsibilities
- Assigns work, plans and manages priorities, and provides technical assistance.
- Oversees staff schedules, monitors quality of work, and mentors staff.
- Provides constructive feedback to supervisor/manager on issues impacting clinic performance and caregiver effectiveness.
- Oversees staff training, ensures quality improvement, and participates in process improvement initiatives.
- Supports strategic initiatives and provides leadership feedback on staff performance.
- Assists with goal setting for the team.
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment, including taking and recording patient history and vital signs.
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms, selects, sets up, and maintains medical supplies and equipment.
- Administers injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
- May transport specimens.
- May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow-up appointments, and coordinate referrals.
- May maintain patient files, records, and other information, including data entry into the electronic medical record.
- May provide phone screening of patients to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
- Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, or performing like-type work.
- Preferred: Experience in leading and training.
Qualifications
- Accredited Program Required: Medical Assistant or Accredited Program Required: Medical Office Assistant that allows the caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam (e.g., associate degree in Allied Health).
- Required upon hire: Certified Medical Assistant - Washington and Basic Life Support.
- Preferred: Medical Assistant National certification or National Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
Skills
- Familiarity with desktop computing tools, multi-line phone systems, and insurance billing preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs. (Required)
- Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. (Required)
- Ability to collaborate with other multi-disciplinary team members. (Required)
- Proficiency in the use of computer and office equipment. (Required)
- Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks. (Required)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. (Required)
- Understanding of the principles of asepsis. (Required)
Working Conditions
- Lifting and patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (e.g., WOW, medical carts).
- Perform hands-on CPR for at least 20 minutes using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA). Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
- Ability to move around the area with frequent sitting.
- Bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and kneeling frequently.
- Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
