About the Role

The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient-centered 50% (20 hours per week) Medical Assistant (MA II) to work primarily with the UICC West Branch Family Medicine Clinic. This position may also support other patient specialties and clinic locations, including Pediatrics and Specialty/Outreach Clinics.

Under the direct supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, registered nurse, or other licensed designee, this role functions as a member of the patient care team, performing technical, patient care, and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support Family Medicine Clinic patients under the direct supervision of a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse.
  • Perform technical and patient care duties, including the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and conventional office equipment.
  • Coordinate all elements of the patient visit in an urgent care or ambulatory setting.

Requirements

  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant, or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, or completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program (e.g., pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, medication administration, dose calculation, and psychology).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous EPIC experience.
  • Previous Family Medicine Clinic experience.
  • Strong phlebotomy skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience with immunizations, lab audits, and handling/processing lab specimens.

Schedule

Variable hours Monday, Thursday, and Friday between 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (Thursday hours end at 12:00 pm). No on-call time, weekends, or holidays required.

Pay

Salary range: $41,718.24 – $61,971.84 (at 100% time; pro-rated for 50% appointment). Pay Grade: 9.
