Medical Assistant II - Family Medicine

Location: 253 Sagamore Pkwy W, West Lafayette, IN 47906

About the Role

Support a busy, high-volume Family & Internal Medicine clinic. Primary responsibilities include rooming patients and providing direct patient care. Work consists of approximately 90% patient care and 10% administrative duties. Collaborate with a team of 4 Medical Assistants.

Clinic hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-5:00 PM. No weekends or holidays required. No travel to other locations.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction under the supervision of the designated supervisor and assigned physician.
• Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, ensure smooth patient flow, and perform general lab work.
• Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments, and needs.
• Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner.
• Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures.
• Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed.
• Perform computerized physician order entry, if directed by assigned physician.
• Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.

Requirements

• AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required.
• Current certification in medical assisting required from one of the following: America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
• Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, ADA, ICD-10, and CPT coding required.
• TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred.
• Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use, and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures, insurance plans, and third-party payers.
• Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care, and Skills Competency checklists.
• Basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills required.
