About the role

This position is a Medical Assistant II role within the Wake Forest Health Network at the High Point Eastchester Med Plz, focusing on family medicine. The role requires adherence to medical assistant scope of practice, maintaining competency based on area of specialty, and performing various patient care tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Completes other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
  • May serve as a role champion or on a committee.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas.
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment.
  • Medical Assistant certification from one of the following is required: CMA from AAMA, CCMA from NHA, NCMA from NCCT, RMA from AMT, RMA from AMH, NCMSMA from NHCWA, NRCMA from NAHP, NRMA from NRMA.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.

Skills

  • Perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic medical records systems.
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available.
  • Exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids.
  • Exposure to hazards on a frequent basis.
