Medical Assistant II - Family Medicine

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, give injections, perform simple diagnostic tests, collect specimens, and draw blood.
• Sterilize and clean equipment and maintain examination rooms at an outpatient care site.
• Greet and check in patients, notify appropriate provider, and prepare patients, rooms, and equipment for procedures and exams.
• Record and inform providers of patient vital signs and concerns.
• Recognize and treat emergency patients as a priority; assist with patient examinations and treatments.
• Handle patient situations over the phone, schedule appointments and procedures with medical professionals, and involve nursing staff and providers when necessary.
• Register new patients and establish medical records.
• Prepare patient billings and assist patients with filling out insurance and other forms.
• Supply authorized information upon request by third-party payors.
• Instruct patients in preparation for specific procedures.
• Collect and process routine laboratory specimens.
• Operate and maintain clinical equipment.
• Maintain and use aseptic technique, including sterilization, disinfection, and disposal of contaminated material.
• Clean, wrap, and autoclave instruments; care for supplies and equipment.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with a 12-month D-H apprenticeship program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA-NHA) certification.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an office or outpatient ambulatory care setting is strongly preferred.
