Medical Assistant I: Neurosurgery

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional environment and collaborate with patients and physicians.
  • Assist with non-clinical tasks to ensure smooth patient access and flow, including pre-authorization processes and acting as a liaison.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure proper records are received and appropriate sign is completed before appointment or surgery date.
  • Provide updates to staff and patients on task statuses that could impact their health and treatment options.
  • Ensure even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.
  • Schedule patients (including follow-up office visits, imaging, and lab work).
  • Prepare appropriate chart elements.
  • Check vital signs.
  • Room patients.
  • Assist with procedures.
  • May be required to work at different locations or travel to multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent, Graduate of Medical Assistant program, or one-year previous medical back-office experience within an acute healthcare system environment.
  • Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Preferred Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field.
  • Minimum one (1) year previous medical back-office experience within an acute healthcare system environment.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record system (EMR).
  • Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates.
  • Certified in current BLS (AHA) and CPR.
  • Current Limited Phlebotomy Certification.
