Medical Assistant - Neurosurgery
Role Overview:
This role supports our procedure suite and is ideal for someone who thrives in an active, hands-on clinical environment. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with procedure time-outs alongside the physician and radiology tech
- Helping patients on and off the procedure table
- Supporting recovery
- MAs with patient discharge
- Assisting Intake MAs with room turnover.

Schedule & Work-Life Balance
This position follows a 4x9 schedule (7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with either Tuesday or Thursday as the regular day off. We are closed evenings, weekends, and major holidays, and our team strongly prioritizes work-life balance for all staff.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs):
- Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Must meet one of the following requirements: Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
- Licenses/Certifications: Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, NCCT, or NREMT certification preferred or achieved within one year of eligibility. (Prior to 5/01/25 MA IIs with 10 years MA experience and employed by MaineHealth as a MA in the most recent 5 years are exempt from certification requirement) Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date. A NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license is required for those positions located in New Hampshire.
- Experience: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant (without certification) or as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant; or 6 months of experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
