About the Role
This position is part of the Clinic Network at Valley Medical Center. The role involves critical duties and essential functions of a Medical Assistant, with responsibilities evolving to meet the organization's changing needs. The Medical Assistant serves as a liaison between patients and providers, ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Perform within legal and ethical boundaries, ensuring accurate documentation of patient communication and clinical treatments.
- Maintain and update medical records in compliance with State, Federal, and regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Medical Assistant scope and role, executing duties within a fast-paced environment.
- Anticipate and facilitate provider workflow, including managing patient wait times and assisting with time management.
- Perform initial intake screening, obtain and record patient information, and prepare patients for examinations and treatments.
- Obtain vital signs per network policy and maintain examination and treatment areas.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments, including administering medications, immunizations, and performing waived laboratory tests as ordered by the provider.
- Perform venous and capillary invasive procedures for blood withdrawal, as well as intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
- Apply or assist with durable medical equipment and perform tympanograms and ear irrigations (with provider order).
- Provide approved patient education and instructions.
- Maintain and update medication, immunization, and health maintenance records.
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments, including completing patient recalls daily.
- Apply principles of aseptic techniques and infection control, including standard precautions and disposal of biohazards.
- Perform inventory of supplies and equipment, and routine maintenance of administrative and clinical equipment.
- Utilize computer and electronic equipment to support office operations and ensure quality control.
- Review and complete ancillary charges for office visits and perform "clean" billing submittals.
- Manage back-office duties, including multitasking, prioritizing, and organizing workflow for providers.
- Participate in huddles with providers to anticipate needs, track patient arrivals, and facilitate communication.
- Manage messaging and order workflow, including forwarding messages to providers, contacting patients, and coordinating prescriptions.
- Expedite written orders from providers, ensuring all paperwork is signed and processed in a timely manner.
- Act as a liaison between Patient Service Representatives (PSRs), Medical Assistants, and Providers.
Requirements
- Certified as a Medical Assistant through State testing (Medical Assistant Certified).
- Good to excellent computer skills, including the ability to navigate multiple applications.
- Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
- Neat and professional appearance, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively while performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Understanding of clinic structure, cultural diversity, and patient care across all age groups.
- For OBGYN Clinic positions: Minimum two years of recent outpatient/medical office OBGYN medical assisting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in a medical assisting role, preferably in the specialty area related to the position vacancy.
