About the Role
This position is part of the Clinic Network at Valley Medical Center. The role supports providers and ensures efficient patient flow in a fast-paced outpatient setting. Responsibilities include clinical duties, patient communication, and operational tasks within the Medical Assistant (MA) scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial intake screening, including verifying the reason for the patient visit and obtaining vital signs per network policy.
- Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas, including setting up for procedures and treatments.
- Assist providers with patient flow, examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Maintain and update patient records, including medication, immunization, and health maintenance records.
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor patient appointments; complete daily patient recalls.
- Act as a communication liaison between providers, patients, and clinic staff.
- Perform venous and capillary blood withdrawals, injections (intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular), and administer medications/immunizations per provider orders and scope of practice.
- Conduct waived laboratory tests, tympanograms, and ear irrigations (with provider order).
- Provide patient education and approved instructions.
- Apply aseptic techniques, infection control practices, and standard precautions.
- Manage back-office duties, including prioritizing and organizing messages, orders, and faxes; facilitating workflow for providers.
- Participate in daily huddles to anticipate provider needs and track patient arrivals.
- Communicate with pharmacies to call in prescriptions, refax orders, and ensure timely completion of paperwork.
- Review and complete ancillary charges for office visits; perform "clean" billing submittals.
- Perform inventory of supplies and equipment, and routine maintenance of administrative/clinical equipment.
- Apply principles of quality control and support office operations using electronic systems.
Requirements
- Certified as a Medical Assistant through state-approved testing (Medical Assistant Certified).
- Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Good to excellent computer skills, including the ability to navigate multiple applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
- Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and multitasking demands.
- Professional appearance and demeanor; ability to maintain calm under pressure.
- Strong customer service and patient care skills; ability to interact professionally with diverse patients, staff, and physicians.
- Understanding of clinic structure, design, and workflow.
- Ability to work independently within MA scope of practice while under the direction of a healthcare practitioner.
- Critical thinking skills to anticipate patient needs and facilitate provider efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant (preferred).
- For OBGYN Clinic positions: Minimum 2 years of recent outpatient OBGYN medical assisting experience.
- Experience in specialty clinics (1–2 years preferred for Medical Assistant Specialist roles).
Pay
$30.49–$46.17 per hour, based on experience.
