About the Role

This position is part of the Pulmonary & Sleep Disorder Clinic within Valley Medical Center’s Clinic Network. The role supports clinical operations, patient care, and provider workflow under the supervision of a Clinic Manager. Responsibilities are guided by the Medical Assistant scope of practice and organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial intake screening, including verifying the reason for patient visits and obtaining vital signs per network policy.
  • Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas, ensuring readiness for patient care.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments, including applying durable medical equipment.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and injections (intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular) as ordered by the provider and within scope of practice.
  • Perform venous and capillary blood withdrawals, tympanograms, ear irrigations (with provider order), and waived laboratory tests.
  • Maintain and update patient records, including medication, immunization, and health maintenance records.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and monitor patient appointments, including daily recalls.
  • Act as a communication liaison between physicians, patients, and clinic staff, ensuring clear and professional interactions.
  • Manage patient flow, anticipate provider needs, and facilitate efficient workflow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Apply principles of aseptic technique, infection control, and standard precautions, including hand washing and biohazard disposal.
  • Perform inventory of supplies and equipment, and conduct routine maintenance of clinical and administrative tools.
  • Review and complete ancillary charges for office visits, ensuring accurate billing submittals.
  • Handle back-office duties, including managing messages, orders, prescriptions, and faxes in a timely manner.
  • Participate in daily huddles with providers to anticipate needs, track patient arrivals, and assign tasks.
  • Provide patient education and approved instructions, ensuring comprehension and follow-through.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking to anticipate patient needs and support provider efficiency.
  • Serve as a resource for patients, addressing questions and facilitating care management as needed.

Requirements

  • Certified as a Medical Assistant through state-approved testing (Medical Assistant Certified).
  • Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Good to excellent computer skills, including the ability to navigate multiple applications simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English, with strong grammar and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and multitasking demands.
  • Neat, professional appearance and demeanor, with respect for cultural diversity.
  • Understanding of clinic structure, design, and the role of a Medical Assistant within the healthcare team.
  • Ability to work independently within the limits of Medical Assistant scope of practice while under the direction of a healthcare practitioner.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic communication tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in a specialty clinic (e.g., Pulmonary, Sleep Disorders, or OBGYN).
  • For OBGYN Clinic positions: Minimum 2 years of recent outpatient/medical office experience in OBGYN.

Skills

  • Strong customer service and patient care skills, with a focus on creating a positive patient experience.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, organize workflow, and manage time effectively in a high-volume setting.
  • Proficiency in critical thinking and problem-solving to anticipate and address patient and provider needs.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and regulatory compliance (State, Federal, and agency requirements).
  • Familiarity with quality assurance practices, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Technical skills in operating clinical and administrative equipment, including computers and electronic systems.

Pay

Salary range: $30.49–$46.17 per hour, based on experience.

The Medical Assistant must maintain a calm demeanor in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.
