Medical Assistant - Full Time - Varied Day
About the Role
A Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN), under the supervision of the physician, assesses, plans, and administers direct patient care in the office. The office nurse performs a wide variety of nursing functions and is primarily responsible for supervision of the clinical area, patient education, and—with physician supervision—answers patients' medical questions, reviews all laboratory and test reports, and handles medical emergencies.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of practice policies and procedures and an excellent overall knowledge of the medical office setting. The LPN will also perform a variety of computer tasks, including nursing notes, history and physicals (H&P’s), and scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the clinical area and provide direct patient care.
- Educate patients and answer medical questions under physician supervision.
- Review laboratory and test reports.
- Handle medical emergencies.
- Perform computer tasks, including nursing notes, H&P’s, and scheduling.
- Assist providers with procedures and autoclaving/sterilization techniques.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Develop and maintain department performance improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current LPN license to practice in Pennsylvania.
- Knowledge of Greenway physician office software (or equivalent) and e-prescribing systems.
- Understanding of the prior authorization process for various insurance companies.
- Strong background in physician office practice.
- Thorough medical knowledge in adult/children medicine, immunizations, and injections.
- Experience in assisting providers with procedures and sterilization techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport with patients.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to apply and modify nursing principles, methods, and techniques for ongoing patient care.
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
- Standing and walking 50% of the time, with frequent physical effort in positioning, lifting, or moving patients and equipment.
- Bending, squatting, twisting, and kneeling.
- Sitting on hard or cushioned chairs and reaching to heights of up to 2 feet overhead.
- Able to move rapidly in response to unpredictable emergencies.
- Near visual acuity with color perception to decipher fine print, detect changes in patient’s skin color, and identify colors of medications or solutions.
- Auditory acuity sufficient to hear phone conversations, overhead pages, alarms, heart and lung sounds, and normal voice tones when not facing the individual.
- Able to hear and see blood pressure readings with accuracy.
- Ability to operate hand and foot controls.
- Manual dexterity, digital sensitivity, and flexibility to check pulses, temperatures, and start IVs.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Must establish priorities among essential job functions and coordinate these with others.
- Able to speak, read, and write in English.
- Exposure to hazards, including electrical current, infectious diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
- Varied day shift, with specific hours determined based on the needs of the practice.
- Possible exposure to electrical current, infectious diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.
Equipment Used
- All equipment necessary for patient care and job performance, including instruments for testing, procedures, documentation, and communication.
At least two years’ experience in a physician office preferred.
