Medical Assistant (Flex) - San Diego (English/Spanish bilingual required)

About the role

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest is seeking a Medical Assistant for our Health Center in San Diego, CA. The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of reproductive health care services under the medical supervision of Clinicians and Physicians. Key responsibilities include screening clients, preparing exam rooms, assisting providers, and performing various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Screen clients, interview and educate them ensuring informed consent
• Perform options and abortion education; make appointments/referrals for follow-up medical services
• Prepare exam rooms, perform basic lab work, package specimens for outside labs, record lab results
• Obtain vital signs (blood pressure, height, weight, etc.), clean and sterilize equipment, stock lab and exam rooms
• Absorb and assist providers as needed, gather information regarding sensitive subjects, monitor center flow and client wait time
• Input and update computer client data information, reconcile billing on a daily basis, schedule appointments, provide abortion referrals and education, assist with contraceptive services, medication abortion services, colposcopy services
• Ensure ongoing communication with Patient Flow Coordinator, Center Manager, and other center staff, comply with safety policies and procedures, attend trainings, staff meetings and in-services, ensure client satisfaction, prepare center for opening and secure for closing, as required
• Identify and report errors, near misses, and safety concerns in a timely manner, proactively communicate identified risks to supervisor, comply with PPPSW’s Code of Conduct and maintain professional and ethical standards

Requirements

• High School diploma equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program
• 2 years comparable clinical back office medical assistant experience
• Experience in Women's Healthcare preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in this role

Benefits

At Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, we offer competitive compensation and benefits. The starting salary range is $23.00/hour to $23.75/hour. Flex positions will receive an additional differential rate and mileage reimbursement. We also offer comprehensive health insurance, paid time off, retirement plans, and other benefits.
