Duties And Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physician with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory.
  • Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies.
  • Ensures that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
  • Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
  • Provides age appropriate care.
  • Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents.
  • Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
  • Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
  • Proficient in clerical responsibilities including: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
  • Performs facility responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • May perform special tests such as clotting times, bleeding times, and glucose tolerance tests and report results to other lab personal.
  • Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the facility.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations or other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Health Sciences program or higher.
  • Current BLS, PEARS/ACLS, Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid CMA certificate/license.
  • Drug screen/breath alcohol certified.
  • CMA course, Phlebotomy course and phlebotomy experience.
  • IV certification preferred.
