About the role

The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing delegated nursing functions under the direction of the department leader and clinical nurses. This position assists with direct patient care and clerical duties essential to coordinating optimal patient care, including scheduling patients, patient hygiene/toileting, mobility assistance, interdepartmental transportation, vital signs, charting, ordering supplies, cleaning and stocking patient areas, chart audits, and interaction with all areas of the department.

Reports to: RN/Nurse Manager or Office Manager

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated nursing functions under clinical supervision
  • Assist with direct patient care and clerical duties
  • Schedule patients and manage interdepartmental transportation
  • Assist with patient hygiene, toileting, and mobility
  • Take and record vital signs
  • Maintain patient charts and perform chart audits
  • Order supplies and ensure patient areas are clean and stocked
  • Interact with all areas of the department to coordinate care

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., certificate of high school equivalency)
  • Successful completion of a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) (preferred)
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant externship (preferred)
  • Two (2) or more years of job-related experience (preferred)
  • One (1) or more years of medical assisting experience (preferred)
