About the role

Certified Medical Assistants and Medical Assistants play an important supporting role to the staff and patients of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They are expected to provide excellent customer service while performing tasks such as taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medication as directed by physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to obtain medical histories, vital statistics, weight, height, blood pressure, temperature, and test results.
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulation.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and clinic policy.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities to help other departments as needed.
  • Educate patients regarding treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician’s instructions as directed by physicians.
  • Collect blood via finger stick, collect urine, fecal, cultures, and other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for laboratory testing.
  • Assist physicians as needed in examining and treating patients during procedures, ensuring proper tools and supplies are available.
  • Maintain patient charts in the electronic medical record system, ensuring accuracy of the patient record.
  • Update patient records as required and send patient correspondence as required through clinic procedure.
  • Maintain clinical supplies and assist in maintaining proper stock and inventory of medical supplies.
  • Assist in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance measures of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager and Charge Nurse.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 1-3 years of customer service experience preferred.
  • 1-3 years of medical assisting experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate from a recognized institution (for Certified Medical Assistant role).
  • No felony results on a criminal background screening.
  • Drug Screen Test with a negative result.
  • Bilingual (preferred for Medical Assistant role).

Work Environment/Conditions

This position includes routine duties that are prone to bloodborne pathogen exposure. Employees will receive personal protective equipment training, bloodborne pathogen standard training, and learn safety precautions. Employees in this class will be offered vaccination provided by Midland Community Healthcare Services.

Physical demands include the ability to interact with patients and operate office equipment for patient services, lift a minimum of 25 lbs, or more, independently as necessary, and move freely about the front office and medical record areas to perform job duties.
