About the Role
Under direct physician supervision, assists providers, nurses, and allied health personnel in delivering comprehensive, high-quality patient care to Kaiser Permanente members in an ambulatory clinic setting.
Responsibilities
- Assists the physician in providing comprehensive medical care by preparing patients for medical examinations, performing rooming-in, screening activities, and obtaining patient histories.
- Performs assigned clinical tasks and procedures under physician supervision, including setting up patients for virtual visits and turning over rooms post-visit.
- Serves as a chaperone for exams if requested by the patient.
- Assists with scheduling follow-up appointments and activities as recommended by the physician.
- Performs clinical tasks and procedures appropriate to the targeted patient population under delegation and supervision of a licensed physician.
- Immediately notifies physician or other licensed healthcare provider of patients observed to be in distress.
- Documents all care given and actions taken in KP HealthConnect.
- Monitors patient flow to minimize wait times and promote a positive patient experience.
- Assists with inventory and requisition of supplies, ensuring exam and procedure rooms are adequately stocked.
- Engages in positive interactions with Kaiser Permanente members, visitors, and staff.
- Monitors and manages refrigerated medications under physician supervision.
- Adheres to professional standards, facility policies, and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Administers medications per KP policy using the 5 rights of medication administration.
- Performs basic diagnostic and laboratory tests and specimen collection per KP policy and CLIA regulations.
- Assists with routine patient education and self-care instructions as directed by providers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program that includes phlebotomy training.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
- Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical Technologists, NCCT National Certified Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant Certificate from American Association of Medical Assistants, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from National Healthcareer Association.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of all Kaiser Permanente Medical Assistant required competencies within the first sixty (60) days of employment, and annually thereafter.
- Effective interpersonal, customer service, and communication (written and oral) skills.
- Proficiency in applicable computer software.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must maintain certifications current and complete annual CEUs to meet CLIA regulations and/or licensing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience as a nursing/medical assistant, relevant experience, or successful completion of a Kaiser Permanente externship.
- Proficiency in documenting in an electronic medical record system.
Schedule
- Part-time, 36 scheduled weekly hours.
- Shift: Day, Monday through Friday.
- Working hours: 09:00 AM to 05:30 PM.
- Worker location: Onsite.
Pay
$26.45 - $38.92 per hour. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
Travel
Yes, 20% of the time.
