About the Role
Under direct physician supervision, assists providers, nurses, and allied health personnel in delivering comprehensive, high-quality patient care to Kaiser Permanente members in the ambulatory clinic setting.
Responsibilities
- Assists the physician in providing comprehensive medical care by preparing the patient for medical examination, performing rooming-in, screening activities, and patient histories.
- Performs assigned clinical tasks and/or procedures under the delegation and supervision of a licensed physician.
- Sets up patients for virtual visits in the clinic and turns over rooms following patient visits.
- Serves as a chaperone for exams if requested by the patient.
- Assists with scheduling follow-up appointments and activities as recommended by the physician.
- Immediately notifies physician or other licensed health care provider of patients observed to be in distress.
- Documents all care given and actions taken on behalf of the patient in KP HealthConnect.
- Monitors the flow of patients to facilitate smooth and efficient operation of the clinical department, minimizing wait times and promoting a positive patient experience.
- Assists with inventory and requisition of required supplies; keeps exam and procedure rooms adequately stocked.
- Engages in positive interactions with Kaiser Permanente members, visitors, and staff.
- Monitors and manages refrigerated medications under the supervision of the practicing physician.
- Adheres to professional standards, facility policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Administers medications per KP policy using the 5 rights of medication administration.
- Performs basic diagnostic and laboratory tests and specimen collection per KP policy and CLIA regulations.
- Assists with routine patient education and self-care instructions as directed by providers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program that includes phlebotomy training.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical Technologists OR NCCT National Certified Medical Assistant OR Medical Assistant Certificate from American Association of Medical Assistants OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from National Healthcareer Association.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of all Kaiser Permanente Medical Assistant required competencies within the first sixty (60) days of employment, and annually thereafter.
- Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Effective communication (written and oral) skills.
- Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Must maintain certifications current and complete annual CEUs to meet CLIA regulations and/or licensing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience as a nursing/medical assistant OR relevant experience OR successful completion of a Kaiser Permanente externship.
- Proficiency in documenting in an electronic medical record system.
Pay
$26.45 - $38.92 per hour.
Schedule
- Part-time, 32 hours per week.
- Shift: Day, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
- Working Hours: 08:00 AM - 04:30 PM.
Primary Location: Gaithersburg Medical Office, 655 Watkins Mill Rd, Gaithersburg, Maryland.
