About the role
This position will float between Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and other specialty Oncology areas. The schedule is Monday through Friday with four 9-hour shifts (no weekends or nights).
Responsibilities
- Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities; support their development by participating in onboarding and training.
- Escort patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical histories and other relevant information.
- Measure and document patients’ vital signs, height, and weight in the medical record.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions to patients.
- Order and organize educational materials to reinforce patient education.
- Perform general office duties, including answering phones, taking dictation, completing insurance forms, and coordinating with other departments.
- Serve as a patient advocate and liaison while providing positive, patient-centered customer service.
- Collect, label, log, and prepare blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens for testing.
- Perform phlebotomy when competency has been demonstrated.
- Maintain immunization inventory and monitor vaccine expiration dates.
- Administer immunizations, as applicable, with required certification or at least three years of vaccine administration experience and under provider supervision.
- Support departmental quality initiatives, including proper use of two patient identifiers and adherence to hand hygiene standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate's Degree or Medical Assisting preferred.
- BLS Certification.
- Certified Medical Assistant – National Certification.
- 1-2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work required.

- Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
