About the Role

Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary. Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens. Assists physicians and other staff as needed. Selects appropriate equipment prior to collection to streamline the process. Verifies specimen orders per department policy. Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIPs) as requested.

Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing performed and maintains statistics as assigned. Performs clerical duties including patient registration, answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining and filing medical records, and distributing reports. Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests, including point-of-care testing, following established policies and universal precautions. Verifies patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit. Documents medical information in electronic medical records, including medication and refill information, and keeps rooms stocked and organized.

Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff in a professional and positive manner, adhering to policies and procedures in support of patient service. Assists in front office functions such as checkout/in duties, claim creation, discharge paperwork, referrals, patient education, appointments, and insurance eligibility. Performs other clinical and clerical duties to assist in delivering primary healthcare and patient care management within any Capital Health office location under the direction of a provider and manager.

Cross-trained to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties as needed. Uploads a notarized "request for access" form and a copy of a State-accepted Certified Medical Assistant certificate for the New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program (NJPMP) and performs NJPMP monitoring under the direction of the LIP. Performs injections (subcutaneous or intramuscular) in accordance with Capital Health policies. May be assigned to other Capital Health Medical Group Practices as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcare Association (NHA), the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or any accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The program must include at least 330 clock hours of instruction, encompassing training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, anatomy, equipment choice, proper technique, hazards, complications, and emergency procedures.
  • Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), the National Certification Medical Association (NCMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or any other recognized certifying body.
  • AHA BLS certification (must obtain before the end of the orientation period).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequent physical demands: Standing, walking, reaching forward, wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities.
  • Occasional physical demands: Sitting, climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), push/pull, twisting, bending, reaching overhead, squat/kneel/crawl, taste or smell.
  • Continuous physical demands: Carrying objects, keyboard use/repetitive motion, talking or hearing.
  • Lifting requirements: Floor to waist: 40 lbs; Waist level and above: 40 lbs.
  • Sensory requirements: Very accurate 20/40 near vision, accurate far vision, color discrimination, moderate depth perception, accurate hearing.
  • Anticipated occupational exposure risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, dust/particulate matter.

Pay

Pay Range: $19.32 - $24.13 per hour (reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position; actual compensation may differ based on assigned hours and position status).
