Mechanical Trades Technician

About the role

The Mechanical Trades Technician III supports the campus community by maintaining and repairing commercial building mechanical systems, including boilers, chillers, air handling units, variable air volume (VAV) systems, pumps, building automation systems, and associated plumbing systems. This role also involves troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems and plumbing systems across the campus.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs commercial building mechanical systems, including boilers, chillers, air handling units, variable air volume (VAV) systems, pumps, building automation systems, and associated plumbing systems.
• Supports the operation of a large institutional facility by performing electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of commercial electrical systems in educational, healthcare, industrial, institutional, or similar occupied facilities.
• Uses Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust HVAC mechanical systems.
• Trains and supervises other employees as needed.

Requirements

• Progressive experience maintaining and repairing commercial building mechanical systems, including boilers, chillers, air handling units, variable air volume (VAV) systems, pumps, building automation systems, and associated plumbing systems.
• Progressive experience performing electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of commercial electrical systems in educational, healthcare, industrial, institutional, or similar occupied facilities.
• Experience using Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust HVAC mechanical systems.
• Experience troubleshooting HVAC controls, sensors, actuators, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and related building automation components.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on commercial mechanical and electrical systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial building systems and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical equipment issues independently.

Qualifications

• Skilled in electrical and plumbing tools and instruments to install and maintain complex, electrical equipment 600 volts and below and plumbing systems.
• Knowledge of the standard practices of the electrical trade, installation and maintenance of complex high and standard voltage electrical equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of the national electric code.
• Knowledgeable in commercial plumbing with the ability to install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems in various commercial and industrial settings, ensuring the proper functioning of water supply, drainage, and sewage systems to meet safety and regulatory standards.

Skills

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, control diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Experience operating a state vehicle.

Pay

$35,012 - $40,000 annually.

Schedule

7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Occasional night and weekend availability might be necessary to accommodate special events and urgent repair tasks. Additionally, the on-call duty operates around the clock, 24/7, to address any unforeseen emergencies.
