Mechanical Technician (PT or FT)

About the role

The Mechanical Technician performs basic and complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on agricultural and lifting equipment, including corn headers, combine headers, and other implements. Work may be performed on customer-owned or dealer-owned equipment, either at the shop or at customer sites. The role also involves maintaining the company’s fleet of vehicles and lifting equipment, ensuring a clean and safe work environment, and continually developing technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good condition and ensure cleanliness.
• Follow all company and safety policies, using required personal protective equipment.
• Perform basic and complex diagnostics on agricultural, construction, and diesel equipment to determine needed repairs or future maintenance.
• Complete service reports, work orders, and inspection forms accurately and promptly, including data entry on computers/tablets.
• Notify management of any issues impacting customer billing or satisfaction and ensure accurate timekeeping for job costing.
• Perform repairs on electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and diesel systems, ensuring quality work and efficiency.
• Participate in job-related training and development to improve technical skills.
• Collaborate with other technicians, parts, and sales personnel, and mentor apprentices or junior technicians.
• Work extended hours or weekends as required by customer deadlines or agricultural seasonality.

Requirements

• Ability to lift 75 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to travel to training events and service calls as needed.
• Acceptable motor vehicle status with a current driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles and shop equipment (e.g., diagnostic tools, forklifts, hydraulic lifts).
• Excellent communication and customer relationship skills.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, with an owned mechanic toolset appropriate for the work.
• Proven experience in repair methods, materials, tools, and techniques for agricultural, automotive, and lifting equipment.

Pay

Starting wage from $16.50 to $24 per hour.

Schedule

20–40+ hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday. Additional availability may be required due to customer deadlines and agricultural seasonality.
