Mechanical Technician (PT or FT)

About the role

The Mechanical Technician performs both basic and complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on agricultural and lifting equipment, including corn headers, combine headers, and other agricultural implements. Work may be performed on customer-owned or dealer-owned equipment, either at the shop or at customer sites. The role also involves maintaining the company’s fleet of vehicles and lifting equipment, ensuring a clean and safe work environment, and continually developing technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good condition and ensure cleanliness, including returning tools to storage areas.
• Follow all company and safety policies, using required personal safety equipment and maintaining a safe work environment.
• Perform basic and complex diagnostics on agricultural, construction, and diesel equipment to determine needed repairs or future maintenance.
• Complete all service paperwork (inspection reports, work orders, etc.) accurately and promptly, including data entry on computers/tablets.
• Ensure management is aware of any issues impacting customer billing or satisfaction and maintain accurate timekeeping for job costing.
• Perform repairs on equipment (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, diesel) with a focus on quality and efficiency.
• Participate in job-related training and development, and actively improve skills through additional programs.
• Collaborate with other technicians, parts, and sales personnel, and mentor Mechanical Technician Apprentices and junior Technicians.
• Work extended hours or weekends as required by customer deadlines and agricultural seasonality.

Requirements

• Ability to lift 75 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to travel to training events and service calls as needed.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle status with a current driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles and shop equipment (diagnostic tools, forklifts, hydraulic lifts, etc.).
• Excellent communication and customer relationship skills.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, with an owned mechanic toolset appropriate for the work.
• Proven experience with methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of agricultural, automotive, and lifting equipment.

Pay

Starting wage from $16.50 - $24 per hour.

Schedule

20-40+ hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday. Additional availability may be required due to customer deadlines and agricultural seasonality.
