Mechanical Technician

About the Role

Our USGO Dakota Area team is expanding our presence in Estelline, SD to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Deuel County and the surrounding area. We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician with knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline and gas storage systems, including turbine engine compressors. This individual must be a self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision, possessing strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain engines, gas-fired turbines, gas compressors, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment
• Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls
• Operate compressor engines and support equipment
• Perform precision measurement and alignment functions
• Analyze engine performance reports
• Read, interpret, and update drawings and schematics (P&ID and electrical)
• Maintain and repair pipelines
• Operate and maintain valves and operators
• Inspect, repair, and set regulators and relief valves
• Blow down, purge, and pressurize pipelines and/or stations
• Storage field facility operations and maintenance, including valve maintenance, pigging, and other tasks as required
• Perform line locates on company pipelines and/or utility line patrols and associated right-of-way maintenance
• Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, including routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
• Initiate corrective action to review and improve maintenance procedures
• Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP and/or Blueworx

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
• Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
• Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
• Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training, which may involve overnight stays
• Work in conditions that include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions

Qualifications

• Associate degree with courses in engine mechanics and pneumatic troubleshooting (preferred)
• Two years of vocational/technical training from a recognized institution (preferred)
• Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting turbine engines
• Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience
• Knowledge of electronic and electrical test equipment used to troubleshoot associated equipment, such as transmitters, switches, and pressure/temperature devices
• Industrial experience in a plant environment
