Mechanical Technician

This opportunity is with a global materials science and technology company operating a manufacturing facility in the Newton, NC area. The site supports high-volume production equipment installations and line conversions as part of ongoing capacity expansion. You'd be joining a small, tight-knit installation team working directly alongside engineering staff on equipment that's actively being built out and brought online, not routine maintenance work.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a small installation team (typically a Lead plus two Mechanical Technicians) on line conversions and equipment installations
• Assemble, align, and install mechanical systems and equipment as part of capacity expansion projects
• Perform hands-on mechanical work including drilling, tapping, and precision fitting during equipment builds
• Read and reference mechanical drawings and CAD files during installation and troubleshooting
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues on hydraulic, pneumatic, and motor-driven systems
• Test and calibrate mechanical systems following installation
• Identify and document spare parts needs
• Support documentation updates for engineering and operations processes
• Collaborate daily with engineers, vendors, and other technicians to keep installation projects on schedule
• Maintain safe work practices and flag hazardous conditions

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience in equipment installation, industrial automation, or complex machinery assembly (manufacturing experience not required if background is directly relevant)
• Demonstrated hands-on ability with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical assembly, including basic machining tasks like drilling and tapping
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills on complex equipment
• Ability to work reliably onsite on a standard daytime schedule with occasional overtime

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a mechanical, technical, or engineering field
• Experience with PLCs, SCADA, robotics, or other automated control systems
• Ability to create or modify CAD drawings (not just read them)
• Millwright, welding, or other relevant mechanical/industrial certifications
• OSHA or other safety certifications
• Prior team leadership or project leadership experience
• Experience managing or coordinating with vendors and suppliers on installation projects

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional overtime.

Pay

Up to $40.25/hr.
