Mechanical Systems Technician, Maintenance of Public Buildings

About the role

The purpose of this classification is to perform complex technical duties in all trade areas to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all City buildings and facilities. This position is subject to 24-hour call.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex technical duties in all trade areas to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all City buildings and facilities;
• Responds to work orders to discuss project work and time frame for completion.
• Completes complex installation, repair and maintenance tasks on HVAC, plumbing, building automation controls, and electrical systems, assists with carpentry work and performs related tasks as assigned;
• Trains and plans for mechanical support staff.
• Participates in various phases of construction and renovation projects.
• Operates a wide variety of tools and equipment to include power tools, hand tools, chillers, boilers, air handlers, pumps, forklift, other lifts and related tools.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical school training in electrical, HVAC, plumbing and related trades;
• Supplemented by five (5) years of experience in general facility maintenance work performing advanced repair and maintenance tasks;
• Requires specialized certifications as deemed necessary.
• Must be certified to handle Freon within sixty (60) days of hire.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
