Mechanical Field Engineer (On-site: Spartanburg Data Center)

About the role

This role is on-site in Spartanburg, SC. As a field mechanical engineer, you will work on projects that enable the heart of our client’s data center site. You and other team members will work closely with client owners in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. In this role, you will collaborate with on-site personnel to support projects of varying size and complexity, including assessment of systems, consulting system owners, and analyzing scope requests from stakeholders.

You will interact with the client, contractors, and site personnel in Spartanburg, SC. Responsibilities include designing, developing, evaluating, and preparing recommendations with basis of design (BOD), scope of work (SOW) documents, as well as design, construction, and specifications documents through the positional (programming) process with a team. You will oversee engineering and construction for facility mechanical systems work, including HVAC, chilled water systems, technical coolant systems, fire protection, plumbing, process-piping, and equipment. The work will include retrofits of existing building systems, as well as new systems.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing vendor submittal packages against client requirements and specifications
• Interacting with subcontractors and construction personnel
• Performing field inspections and audits to verify compliance with contract documents, construction drawings, industry standards, and safety regulations
• Reviewing and interpreting project specifications, drawings, RFIs, and submittals to ensure adherence to quality requirements
• Tracking and documenting non-conformance reports (NCRs) and overseeing corrective actions to resolve quality issues
• Collaborating with contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to enforce quality standards and resolve issues
• Overseeing and inspecting construction activities to verify workmanship, alignment, and adherence to project requirements
• Supporting pre-installation meetings, punch lists, and final inspections to ensure project milestones are met
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• At least 3 years of practical application of mechanical facilities design engineering, including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing, and related mechanical facilities systems
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and leadership experience
• Solid knowledge and application of building codes and other related standards (ASHRAE, ASME, etc.)
• Solid knowledge in practice and procedures for specifications and selection of all types of mechanical equipment and components
• Proficient working knowledge of design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Forward-thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas
• Passionate about buildings and construction

Qualifications

• EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (preferred)
• 5 years of experience working on-site or as a facility engineer (preferred)
• Working knowledge of design-related deliverables, such as P&IDs, PFDs, Details, and Equipment Plans
• Proficiency with industry-standard HVAC load and energy modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace 700, or Trane Trace 3D
• Experience coordinating work packages with contractors/subcontractors

Schedule

Candidate will be required to be on-site Monday-Friday during normal business hours – nominally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Physical Requirements

• Position requires field visits and walks at an active client site in various stages of construction
• Must be able to walk long distances, sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, crawl, climb ladders, work on catwalks, work in small spaces
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $69,500.00 to $121,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
