About the role
This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), field-based role located in Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; or Seattle, WA, with travel to project sites as required.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot critical mechanical infrastructure supporting data center operations
- Support the reliable operation of:
- Chillers
- Cooling towers
- CRAH units
- CRAC units
- Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs)
- Heat exchangers
- Associated pumps and hydronic systems
- Maintain detailed maintenance records, equipment histories, incident reports, and operational documentation
- Support root cause investigations and corrective action implementation following equipment failures or operational events
- Assist with commissioning, startup, testing, and acceptance of new mechanical equipment and infrastructure
- Coordinate with facilities personnel, contractors, and engineering teams to resolve operational issues and execute system upgrades
- Perform routine inspections and identify opportunities for reliability and efficiency improvements
- Assist with operational readiness activities for new facility deployments and infrastructure expansions
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience supporting mechanical systems in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial plants, healthcare environments, or similar infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with:
- Chillers
- Cooling towers
- CRAH and CRAC systems
- Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs)
- Heat exchangers
- Hydronic distribution systems
- Experience troubleshooting critical cooling infrastructure in live operational environments
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
- Understanding of preventive maintenance practices and equipment reliability principles
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
- Willingness to travel to project sites and support field operations as needed
- Experience supporting hyperscale or colocation data center facilities
- Familiarity with direct liquid cooling systems and high-density compute environments
- Experience participating in commissioning and startup activities
- Knowledge of chilled water systems and plant operations
- Mechanical, HVAC, or facilities-related certifications
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Familiarity with mission-critical operating procedures and incident response processes
Qualifications
- The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $96.15 – $120.19 per hour
