Mechanical Estimator
About the role
A growing manufacturer of custom industrial products is seeking a Manufacturing Estimator / Technical Sales Specialist to join its team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys reviewing technical drawings, preparing estimates, collaborating with engineering and production teams, and helping customers find practical solutions to meet their project needs. This is not a traditional cold-calling sales role.
Responsibilities
- Review project requirements, take-offs, blueprints, and technical drawings in collaboration with engineering and design teams.
- Analyze customer specifications and develop accurate cost estimates and quotations.
- Prepare quotes, job orders, purchase orders, and supporting project documentation.
- Work closely with production, engineering, purchasing, and shipping teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products, materials, or manufacturing solutions.
- Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing capabilities, materials, processes, and product applications.
- Aid in pricing strategy, cost analysis, and competitive bid development.
- Support customer inquiries and provide technical assistance throughout the sales process.
- Maintain accurate records and tracking of quotes, orders, and customer communications.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and departmental objectives.
Essential Skills
- 3 or more years of experience in technical sales and in a manufacturing office setting.
- Proficiency in Solidworks and Excel.
- Understanding of sales, estimation, and design.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to calculate and interpret figures including percentages, commissions, and basic geometry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
- 4+ years of sales experience, account management, or related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Business Management is preferred.
- Experience in agricultural equipment sales or manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Strong presentation skills for one-on-one and group settings.
- Working knowledge of cost analysis and pricing strategies.
Work Environment
The position is based in a manufacturing office environment. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to or relocate to Escalon, CA.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Escalon, CA.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
