About the role
Amazon Web Services is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the Central Regions mechanical design group and become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of engineers that influence all aspects of Mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centers.
- Coordinate with discipline leads across the AMER regions.
- Define, design, detail, and document the various Mechanical features that our facilities require, using both prescriptive and performance-based design approaches.
- Ensure the Mechanical features of our buildings protect our people and keep our customer’s data safe and uninterrupted over the life of the building.
- Contribute expertise to the continual improvement of our Mechanical design standards.
- Oversee project-related work related to the cooling, heating, and plumbing systems for AWS data centers.
- Provide detailed construction specifications for all Mechanical-related trades.
- Review all mechanical and plumbing drawings to ensure they meet the code requirements described in our design standards.
- Serve as the point of escalation for the team on technical mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Ensure the team has the information they need to design our data centers the way we expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders, including design, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, and other service providers, as well as local building and fire officials.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document the various Mechanical features that our facilities require, using both prescriptive and performance-based design approaches.
- Coordinate with third party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Provide high quality Mechanical engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally while working with global Mechanical engineering teams to achieve alignment of designs and design objectives.
- Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
- Be responsible for construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review.
- Meet with AHJs as needed to ensure approval of Mechanical features.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5 years managing a team of engineers
- Cumulative 10+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to all aspects of Mechanical, including fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, fire-resistive construction, and life safety
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer
