About the role

Innovative Refrigeration Systems, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - New Graduate to join our dynamic team in Lyndhurst, VA. This role offers hands-on experience in designing and developing advanced industrial refrigeration systems using natural refrigerants like ammonia and CO₂.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical rooms, rooftop penthouses, and piping systems for industrial refrigeration.
  • Perform engineering calculations including thermal analysis, tolerance dimensions, and structural assessments.
  • Ensure all designs comply with company standards, industry regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Prepare and submit detailed design drawings to internal teams for review and approval.
  • Provide technical support during the fabrication and installation phases to ensure design accuracy.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOM) and input data into the ERP system.
  • Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure correct execution of designs.
  • Cook with purchasing for timely and accurate procurement of materials.
  • Coordinate with vendors to clarify part specifications and manufacturing requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks).
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and refrigeration engineering principles.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Occasional travel to job sites may be required depending on project needs.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and requires pre-employment and regular drug testing.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (seated or standing) for extended periods.
  • Occasionally may need to lift or carry items up to 25 pounds (e.g., office supplies, small equipment).

Preferences

  • Experience with sheet metal and pipe fabrication.
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) License.
  • Interest in obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • Background in refrigeration systems or HVAC/MEP experience.
