Mechanical Engineer, Motor Design - 2026 New Graduate

About the role

Radiant is a startup based in El Segundo, CA, developing the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. Their first product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor capable of running for up to 5 years without refueling. This technology replaces diesel generators and provides critical power for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings in CAD and NX.
• Communicate with vendors to source all components for the generator.
• Perform bench testing, dynamic testing, and system testing for all subsystem components and models.
• Make hands-on assembly, rapid prototyping, and integration of high voltage electric motors and generators.

Requirements & Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical engineering specializing in electric motors.
• Fundamental knowledge of permanent magnet electric motors.
• Experience in design, manufacturing, and assembly of electric motors.

Desired Qualifications & Skills

• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering specializing in electric motors.
• Knowledge of motor control systems including SVM.
• Great team player with a team mentality, working with turbomachinery, power electronics, thermal, packaging, and software teams.

Additional Requirements

• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
• Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
