Mechanical Engineer - Low Cab Forward Development

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for engineering investigation, research, design, development, and analysis of various vehicle attributes, including Cab Structures, Chassis, Steering, Vehicle Suspension, Engine Integration, HVAC, Dash, Digital Displays, and Interior/Electrical Components. This role involves working on new development programs, evolving ideas from concepts to implementation, and providing engineering support across multiple domains.

Responsibilities

• Identify and initiate designs of a complex nature and conduct necessary research incidental to design.
• Support definition of vehicle programs through planning, concept development, calculation, design analysis, packaging studies, testing, implementation, and evaluation.
• Use Windchill and Creo to create CAD models and drawings.
• Apply knowledge of stress analysis, FEA, materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T principles.
• Develop and support FMEA, DVP&R, and other aspects of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).
• Support sourcing processes and manage supplier activities related to design and manufacture of components.
• Coordinate projects with other engineering groups, departments, and divisions (e.g., PACCAR Technical Center, DAF, Kenworth, PACCAR Engine Company).
• Prepare engineering activity status reports and detailed documentation as directed.
• Identify, prioritize, and resolve production, production control, and quality assurance issues proactively.
• Act professionally in all internal and external customer interactions.
• Travel up to 10% may be required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 7+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of cab-over vehicle layout and design.
• Experience in heavy truck assembly, components, and systems.
• Previous design experience of parts and assemblies.
• Proficiency with component analysis and validation techniques.
• Experience with project management, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
• Excellent communication (verbal/written), presentation skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to adapt to change and solve complex technical problems.
