Mechanical Engineer, Infrastructure

About the role

Our elite Starbase team is working on the toughest and most audacious project on our planet: making humanity multiplanetary. This engineer will support the team responsible for building and upgrading facilities and ground support equipment (GSE) to develop a high-volume rocket factory. Responsibilities

• Lead MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) design and coordination for residential, commercial, and industrial projects
• Partner with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details
• Prepare and review design drawings and documents for mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems and specifications for a variety of engineering projects
• Manage construction activities related to MEP systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
• Use construction/engineering knowledge to expedite the design process and solve conflicts during construction
• Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
• Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
• Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
• Oversee and own full lifecycle of tasks and/or projects to achieve on-time and under-budget delivery with customer satisfaction
• Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of construction projects
• Provide budgetary costs based upon the preliminary scope of the project
• Gather proposals from architects, engineers, and contractors; assign contracts upon receipt of all proposals
• Develop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule, and scope
• Facilitate city, county, and governmental approvals
• Coordinate project implementation and track project status
• Work with the facilities team and customers to operationalize post-construction building operations and maintenance functions
• Coordinate with customer and facilities teams for building operations and maintenance
• Manage night-shift contractors as project work requires
• Take on new projects ad-hoc as business needs arise
• Coordinate permit acquisition/closeout with the permitting team

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or structural engineering
• 1+ years of experience creating structural, civil, or MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and details
• Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required

To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C.1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C.1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, think critically, and drive successful outcomes
• Mentality of extreme ownership, owning project outcomes from the concept phase to customer turnover
• Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other MEP design and analysis software
• Proficiency with design and construction of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R), controls systems, fire protection systems, concrete, structural framing, and industrial gas trades
• Ability to read instructions and blueprints
• Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and methods
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment
