About the Role
Work with or lead assigned engineering teams to support the design and analysis of aircraft, ground, and/or sea military hardware, missionization kits, and other modifications to ensure system integrity in operational settings. As a team member or mechanical lead, develop new design concepts using customer requirements, existing drawings, and on-site surveys.
Responsibilities
- Convert design concepts and requirements into detailed designs for assemblies, sub-assemblies, and piece parts using 3D CAD software.
- Use mock-ups and/or 3D printed parts to verify fit or functional requirements before finalizing designs.
- Interpret and apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards.
- Collaborate with structural analysis and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet performance and manufacturability requirements.
- Support aircraft or ground vehicle modification and mission kit development programs from initial surveys through design, analysis, manufacturing, and integration to project completion.
- Prepare, review, and evaluate documentation, specifications, test plans, and procedures.
- Develop briefing materials for design review milestones (SRR, PDR, CDR) and present to customers.
- Conduct trade-off studies and analyze design interfaces in early design phases.
- Develop or support engineering reports such as Weight and Balance Reports using calculated or actual weight data.
- Review and approve work products, including engineering drawings and technical reports, developed by other engineers.
- Provide daily supervision and direction to supporting engineers and drafting personnel, depending on experience.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
Mechanical Engineer II
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required). Master’s Degree in Engineering (preferred).
- Six years of experience for BS level; four years for MS level.
- Minimum of two years of experience in modification and missionization kit development for aircraft and/or military ground vehicles.
- Experience with 3D CAD packages (SolidWorks desired).
- Experience with design using composite materials (desired).
- Technical team lead experience (preferred).
Mechanical Engineer III
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required). Master’s Degree in Engineering (preferred).
- Nine years of experience for BS level; seven years for MS level.
- Minimum of five years of experience in modification and missionization kit development for aircraft and/or military ground vehicles.
- Experience with 3D CAD packages (SolidWorks desired).
- Experience with design using composite materials (desired).
- Technical team lead experience (required).
