About the role
We are seeking a Mechanical or Systems Engineer to develop, analyze, and optimize mechanical aspects of sensor systems. As a member of the Sensor Systems Engineering group, you will be working with teams of passionate engineers and scientists who design, analyze, and test systems for the Air and Missile Defense Sector. Our team strives to deliver robust solutions to APL's most difficult problems.
Responsibilities
- Design and perform mechanical/structural analysis of sensor systems
- Lead the analysis effort of advanced radar system hardware from concept thru delivery, including GD&T analysis, structural analysis, thermal analysis, detailed design, assembly, and testing
- Participate in government test events to observe and analyze shock, vibration, and other environment and system survival tests
- Lead and contribute to planning activities for future projects and initiatives while delivering technical mentorship for ongoing projects
- Participate in design reviews and team meetings
Requirements
- Possess a B. S. in mechanical, systems, or aerospace engineering, other relevant technical field
- Have at least five years of experience in sensor hardware design, analysis, manufacturing or assembly
- Have demonstrated ability with CAD design, analysis and assembly tools such as Ansys, Solidworks, or Creo
- Have experience with MATLAB or similar computational tools
- Possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Able to obtain a Secret security clearance
Qualifications
- Possess a Master’s degree or PHD in mechanical, systems, or aerospace engineering or relevant technical field
- Have at least 7 years of experience working with Navy, Army, Marine, or Air Force systems
- Have experience with Thermal and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software packages
- Have experience with aerospace environmental and verification testing
- Have demonstrated results, teamwork, initiative, motivation and adaptability
- Knowledge in conventional and additive manufacturing techniques and procedures
